Collection: Matcha Tools & Accessories
Everything you need to make matcha the traditional way at home in India: a handcrafted bamboo whisk (chasen), ceramic matcha bowls (chawan), a bamboo scoop (chashaku), a fine stainless-steel sieve and whisk holders that keep your chasen in shape.
Which matcha tools do you need?
-
Bamboo matcha whisk (chasen). The one tool that makes the biggest difference. Its fine bamboo tines break up the powder and whisk in air, giving smooth, frothy matcha with no clumps. A spoon or milk frother cannot quite match it.
-
Matcha bowl (chawan). A wide bowl gives the whisk room to move in a quick W motion. Our ceramic bowls also have a small spout for easy pouring into a glass for lattes.
-
Bamboo scoop (chashaku). One to two scoops is about 1 to 2 g of matcha, the right amount for one cup.
-
Matcha sieve. Matcha is so fine that it clumps. Sifting it first is the easiest way to get a silky cup.
-
Whisk holder (kusenaoshi). Rest your chasen on it after use so it dries evenly and keeps its shape for longer.
How to make matcha with these tools
- Sift 1 to 2 g of ceremonial matcha into your bowl.
- Add 60 to 70 ml of water at about 75 to 80°C. Do not use boiling water.
- Whisk briskly in a W motion for 15 to 20 seconds until a fine foam forms.

Frequently asked questions
Do I really need a bamboo whisk for matcha?
For the smoothest, frothiest matcha, yes. A bamboo chasen is cut from a single piece of bamboo into many fine tines that break up clumps and aerate the tea in seconds. A milk frother works in a pinch, but traditional matcha tastes best whisked with a chasen.
How do I care for my bamboo whisk?
Soak the tines in warm water before use so they bend instead of breaking. After use, rinse it without soap and let it dry completely on a whisk holder, so it keeps its shape and no mould forms.
Can I use any bowl to make matcha?
You can, but a wide bowl with a flat base makes whisking much easier. Narrow mugs do not give the whisk room to move, so the matcha does not froth as well.
Do you ship matcha tools across India?
Yes. Nokū ships matcha whisks, bowls and accessories across India.
