Nokū Hojicha is Japanese roasted green tea in fine powder form, made in Japan. Roasting turns green tea leaves reddish-brown and gives a warm, toasty, naturally nutty flavour that is noticeably less bitter than green tea, and generally lower in caffeine than matcha. Mix it into hot water or milk in seconds, with no steeping or straining.

Hojicha or matcha?
Matcha is bright, grassy and energising; hojicha is cosy, nutty and gentler. Many people drink matcha in the morning and hojicha in the evening. Read our hojicha vs matcha guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does hojicha have caffeine?
Yes, but generally less than matcha, because roasting reduces caffeine. That is why hojicha is a popular afternoon and evening tea in Japan.
How much hojicha do I use per cup?
Start with 1 to 2 teaspoons per cup and adjust to how strong you like it. Use a little more for a latte, as milk softens the flavour.
Is this a hojicha latte mix?
No. It is pure hojicha powder, with no sugar, milk powder or flavouring added, so you control the sweetness.
How should I store hojicha powder?
Keep it tightly sealed, away from heat, light and moisture, and use it within a few weeks of opening for the best aroma.
Do you supply hojicha for cafés?
Yes. Nokū supplies hojicha and ceremonial matcha to cafés, cloud kitchens and food brands across India. See our guide to wholesale hojicha for cafés or send a wholesale enquiry.
